In 1992 Thompson's was the first feed mill in Europe to achieve the
International Quality Assurance Standard, ISO9002, for its entire
manufacturing process. This quality standard is the foundation of a
comprehensive quality assurance programme operated by Thompson's from raw
material sourcing , through manufacture to the delivery of finished feeds to
farms.
In 1998 Thompson's was the first mill within the British Isles to achieve
HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) Accreditation which, in common
with all our other Quality Control Systems, is independently verified by
accredited auditors from Lloyds. HACCP Quality Control Systems are widely used
in the food industry and are appropriate for Thompson's' manufacturing
processes.
Thompson's, since 1999, have been a registered manufacturer of organic animal
feeding stuffs under the United Kingdom Register of Organic Feed Standards (UKROFS).
Thompson's are the biggest user of both local and imported organic raw materials
in Northern Ireland.
To constantly monitor and control quality, the group operates two UKAS
accredited laboratories for microbiological examination and chemical analysis.
These laboratories support our independently audited Quality Assurance Standards
which operate across our entire business. Access to Group facilities ensures
speedy availability of results whilst Near Infrared Spectrophotometry (NIR)
technology offers interactive quality control analysis of both raw materials and
finished feeds, available to both our Nutritional Department and Customers.
The UKASTA Feed Assurance Scheme, designed for manufacturers of compound
animal feeding stuffs and premixtures, provides a set of principles and
guidelines for the safe production and supply of feed to livestock producers.
The UKASTA Feed Assurance Scheme (UFAS) is supported by ABM (Assured British
Meat) and NIGTA (Northern Ireland Grain Trade Association). Inspections are
carried out by experienced independent verifiers, who audit for compliance with
the UKASTA Code of Practice.
